Mike has held senior organizational and executive development functions in a variety of industries and organizations including energy and manufacturing / engineering. He has extensive experience in major business transformation projects. While with Saudi Aramco (the most valuable company in the world), he served as Head of the leadership development function. He led the assessment, organization design and new program/process/services implementation for the company’s new Leadership Center facility. In 2012 the transformed Center was recognized as a best-in-class leadership development organization through an independent customer relationship study conducted by Towers Watson. Later, as a core team member of the company’s organization-wide Accelerated Transformation Program (ATP) he served on the ‘Leadership Engine’ team dedicated to mapping and guiding implementation of critical corporate HR processes. These redesigned processes included: standardized, company-wide leader selection processes designed to ensure fairness and transparency; establishing HR partner roles placing HR professionals at each level throughout the Aramco organization; and the creation of key corporate level HR metrics to leverage human capital effectiveness.

While with TRW Automotive, Mike served as the Corporate Lead Black Belt for the human resource function. In this role, he coordinated 6 Sigma strategy, projects and best practice sharing across an organization of 65,000 employees and 190 worldwide locations. He also served as Director of HR Development for TRW Automotive Safety Restraint Division (air bags and seat belts), he established a learning and development organization that was recognized with the coveted corporate TRW Annual Outstanding Achievement Award. Aspects of this innovative work were featured in the August 1998 edition of Training magazine.

Mike has worked extensively leading and participating in organization improvement project teams. He utilizes a variety of data-driven organizational development methodology such as change management, process mapping, data collection / feedback, and implementation planning, Mike is adept at gaining organization buy-in and harnessing the resources needed for successful long-term organization application. As a member of the ATP team, he designed and conducted an HR Strategy Workshop Series with Aramco’s HR executive and management team. The process resulted in an integrated HR strategy aligned with Saudi Aramco’s business objectives and prioritized initiatives. While serving as head of Aramco’s Leadership Center he guided team implementation of an innovative learning transfer process that focused on applying newly learned leadership skills to specific desired business results. The International Federation of Training & Development (IFTDO) recognized this approach with the 2012 Best HRD Practice award. He has conducted dozens of team building sessions designed to successfully integrate new executives into their new role. Pre and post assessment of these team interventions have consistently shown improvement in team cohesion and agreed upon business metrics.

Larsen holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in human resource development and has completed executive development programs with Cornell University and the University of Michigan. He holds multiple certifications in HR, 6 Sigma, Benchmarking, Consulting Skills and as a master trainer in multiple leadership development training systems. He has wide-ranging experience throughout the United States, Saudi Arabia, UK/Ireland, Europe and Mexico. Most recently, he has done independent consulting with the University of Phoenix, the Port of Long Beach (California), and the largest meat-packaging company in the world.
